It's a puppy party! Our next puppy party will be Monday, December 11, 2023 at 6:00-7:30 PM! This is for Stella and Parker's 5 puppies in the Beatrix Potter Litter who will be 6 weeks old and this will be their first real adventure and outing!
We will also have some freshly baked scones, jams, clotted cream, pound cake, of course cucumber sandwiches, shortbread cookies, and some other amazing treats like marzipan and pistachio caramel toffee bars!
When? Monday, December 11, 2023 at 6:00-7:30 PM
Where? Independent Presbyterian Church, choir suite, 3100 Highland Avenue, Birmingham, Alabama 35205 (enter through the doors to the right off the grassy courtyard on the Highland Avenue side of the church. There are angels etched in the glass above the doors. Ring the doorbell to the right of the doors, which rings in the choir suite, then wait for someone to come let you in (if the doors are locked).
Wear? Casual! Wear socks so you can take your shoes off .... just to be super safe that you're not bringing Parvo or something as a puppy present since they will not have been vaccinated yet. (If you have visited any place such as a dog park, pet store, Humane Society etc. prior to the party, plan to change clothes and wash arms and hands thoroughly). We will also have disposable surgical gowns and booties in a fashionable shade of blue ;) for extra precaution.
Bring?
F stands for FUN not FEAR.
The goal for each puppy is to have fun with a new friend. The goal of the party activities is not necessarily for each puppy to master a specific skill or behavior, (i.e. "walk through a tunnel"), but to provide opportunities for the puppy to discover that learning with humans is fun and that strangers, (even ones who might wear odd glasses, hats, or masks!), can be kind, loving, and fun to engage with!
At around 6 weeks of age, the puppies will be just starting or well into their "curiosity period". At this age there will be less fear (as long as the humans present all of the challenges in a positive manner with plenty of patience and smiles) and none of the "talk to the hand" which pugs might sometimes throw at you once they are older. (Pugs are not known to be a particularly biddable breed). Even within a litter, each puppy reaches different developmental stages at different times (some pups' eyes open on Day 13, some on Day 15 etc.) so it's very likely that Puppy A might breeze through the tunnel while Puppy G may never even place one foot in the tunnel. Yet, both puppies will be ready to party and have a swell time discovering that the PROCESS of learning ... even when using a very wide learning curve ;) ... and interacting with a human is fun, not fearful.
The party is also a chance for humans to catch a whiff of puppy breath and be a part of shaping these blessed creatures' future lives with these short, yet very positive experiences and interactions. If you want to learn even more, here is a link to the video about Puppy Culture Puppy Parties.
What to expect?
Yummy food (for humans)
Some fellowship with humans
Structured playtime with puppies!

- Nothing! We will have everything you need (but plan on socks if you want to take your shoes off versus wearing those fashionable booties over your shoes)

We hope you will be able to join us for a small, casual gathering at Independent Presbyterian Church (IPC) to help socialize 5 adorable pug puppies! The mama, Stella (Pickwick's Watching the Stars Align) is a half-sister to Biggie the pug, who won Westminster Toy Group and more best in shows than any pug in history. The father, Parker (CH Wright's Triumphant Tiger Eye at Pickwick) is the son of Reese, who was the #3 pug in the country. There are 4 girls and 1 boy:
Jeremy Fischer - "Pickwick's I Think I Should Like Some Lunch"
Beatrix Potter - "Pickwick's Behave Yourself & Never Mind the Rest"
Ginger - "Pickwick's Sponge-Cake & Butter-Buns"
Mrs. Tiggy-Winkle - "Pickwick's Obliged to Leave the Pudding"
Jemima Puddle-Duck - "Pickwick's Not in the Habit of Flying"
If you have not been to a "puppy party" before, it is a small, casual gathering where each person (or pair of people) oversees a station such as a miniature tunnel, teeter totter, or ramp, and then guides each puppy as they rotate from station to station to learn how to have fun with human interaction. No dog training skills necessary, just a love of puppies. Visit www.puppyculture.com for more information.
We will be meeting in the choir room at IPC and sitting on the floor which will be sterilized and mopped thouroughly prior to the party). Bring a blanket/pad/mat to sit on for comfort if you like. We'll take tea and appetizer breaks in between rounds. If you have any questions or would like to RSVP please contact Amy (205) 908-5830) or Jeff (205) 422-4421.

A REMINDER: ALWAYS SIT ON FLOOR WHEN HOLDING PUPS - criss cross apple sauce or something approximating - it's SO very easy to drop a puppy as they are so wiggly and squirmy. And if you haven't held a puppy in awhile and want some refresher tips, here's a link to an awesome video . . . .
